British Sailing Team Rio Mark Rushall coach

RYA British Sailing Team coach

I have worked as an RYA British Sailing Team coach for over 10 years.  Between 2006 and 2012, when the team was known as Skandia Team GBR, I coached the Paralympic three person Sonar Team to two World Championship wins.

I was the Paralympic coach for the same trio, John Robertson, Steve Thomas and Hannah Stodel on their journey to the Olympic Games at Bejing 2008 and London 2012.

My work with the British Sailing Team extends across the entire Podium Team and Podium Development sailors, supporting other squad coaches on specific tactical and skill development modules.

My various roles have extended to include coaching and mentoring other coaches across the range of RYA squads – from Youth up to Podium squads.

Specifically for Rio 2016, I was the British Sailing Team Strategist for the Olympic and Paralymic teams. Involving a lot of technical work behind the scenes and working closely with all the sailors, I lead the project to build the callbook: the Team ‘bible’ for the sailing venue in Rio.

I’d like tell you more – but I can’t!  But we finished the Games as the top sailing nation with five medals across the Team.
